The Verdict - Apple Inc. (AAPL)
Rating | Good company, poor entry |
Current price | $308.91 |
Our fair-value range | $215-$265/share |
Business quality | Strong - 3.85 / 5.00 |
Apple’s operations are performing well, but the stock trades above both the core fair-value range and the report’s bullish DCF outcome. The issue is not operational weakness. It is the amount of sustained growth, margin resilience and regulatory stability already embedded in the share price.
What the market is betting on
Apple sells premium devices and high-margin services across an installed base exceeding 2.5 billion active devices. At $308.91, the price only makes sense if revenue and free cash flow grow about 22.9% annually for five years under the base discount-rate assumptions. Even the more favorable case still requires roughly 16.2% annual growth. That hurdle is aggressive for a company already producing $466.8B of trailing revenue. Recent growth is genuine, but some reported margin strength came from tariff refunds, while component costs, regulation and platform-economics risks are rising. That leaves investors exposed to multiple compression even if the underlying company continues reporting solid results near term.
What the filings actually show
The latest filing supports strong business quality, exceptional cash generation and broad-based growth, but not the current valuation.
Q3 revenue rose 16% to $109.4B, with double-digit growth across every geographic segment.
Gross margin reached 50.1%, although tariff refunds contributed about two percentage points.
Filing-derived trailing free cash flow reached $136.7B, or 106% of trailing net income.
Nine-month operating cash flow increased 43%, partly helped by favorable working-capital movements.
Shares outstanding declined 1.1% over nine months as repurchases more than offset issuance.
Metric | Now | Prior comparison |
Revenue growth | 16.2% | 6.0% |
LTM EBIT margin | 33.2% | 32.0% |
LTM free cash flow | $136.7B | $98.8B FY2025 |
Broad liquid assets less debt | $62.2B | $132.4B liquidity FY2025 |
Diluted EPS | $8.35 | $7.46 FY2025 |
Three ways this plays out
If things break down: The practical stress case is $180-$195/share if revenue contracts modestly, margins normalize and cash flow falls toward $121-$125B.
Most likely: Core investable fair value is $215-$265/share, supported by normalized earnings and filing-derived cash-flow multiples.
If the bulls are right: A conditional $300-$350 market-value zone requires sustained double-digit growth, resilient Services economics and continued premium multiples.
What would change our mind
Several more quarters of double-digit revenue and free-cash-flow growth without tariff or working-capital help.
Evidence that App Store and search-licensing economics remain intact through regulatory remedies.
A price below $265, preferably toward $215-$240, creating a positive margin of safety.
